1885-CC Morgan Dollar

Despite the scant mintage of 228,000 for the 1885-CC Morgan Dollar, the coins remain plentiful in mint state grades. The coin is actually more of a rarity in circulated grades, since few of the coins actually circulated, but were held back from release in Treasury vaults.

More than half the original mintage was eventually sold off by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the 1970’s, along with other Carson City Morgan Dollars that had been sitting in their vaults. The GSA inventory of 1885-CC Morgan Dollars was 148,285, representing 65% of the original mintage.
