1891-S Morgan Dollar

Leading up to the rare San Francisco issues of the following two years, the 1891-S Morgan Dollar had an adequate mintage of 5,296,000 pieces, was well produced, and remains relatively available through the gem grade level. The issue is generally found well struck with excellent luster.

Examples graded MS65 by grading services PCGS or NGC can be acquired for prices around $1,500. Higher grades become more elusive, with the finest known pieces graded MS67. One of these finest known examples sold for $16,675 at auction in January 2009.
