1888-O Morgan Dollar

The 1888-O Morgan Dollar is one of the common dates of the series, with plenty of examples available for collectors in circulated through gem grades. The mintage for the issue was 12,150,000. The coins were distributed both at the time of mintage and during the Treasury releases of the 1950’s.

Notable die varieties exist for this issue, most famously the 1888-O Morgan Dollar “Hot Lips” variety. Doubled features appear on the obverse of the coin, most notably at Liberty’s lips, thus the name. Examples are most known in circulated grades, with AU graded examples commanding a significant premium.
