1901-O Morgan Dollar

The 1901-O Morgan Dollar (Buy on eBay) had the highest mintage for a circulation strike of the series in more than a decade and would remain the high point until two decades later when large numbers of 1921 Morgan Dollars were produced. Despite the high mintage of 13,320,000 coins, this issue was not always abundant for collectors. Similar to the situation for other New Orleans minted Morgan Dollars, many were held back in Treasury vaults. It wasn’t until their release in the 1960’s that the issue became more common.

1901-O Morgan Dollar

In contrast, the 1901 Morgan Dollars minted at Philadelphia had a relatively robust mintage, but did not see the massive releases in the 1960’s. As a result, this issue represents a major rarity in uncirculated grades.
