The 1878-CC Morgan Dollar (Buy on eBay) was the first year of issue for the new series, produced at the Carson City Mint. Unlike the Philadelphia Mint issue for the year, all coins are found with seven tail feathers on the reverse.
The circulation strike mintage for the coin was 2,212,000. Of this amount, many were held in Treasury vaults and released during later years. A small portion of the original mintage was also distributed in the 1970’s as part of the GSA Morgan Dollar Hoard. As a result, uncirculated examples of the 1878-CC Morgan Dollar remain relatively available for collectors.
