The 1903-S Morgan Dollar (Buy on eBay) had a mintage of 1,241,000 pieces, one of the lowest levels in several years. Production of the denomination had been falling and would be suspended after the following year’s mintage.

Most of the coins produced by the San Francisco Mint this year were held back and distributed over many years. The issue carries a premium at all grade levels and is uncommon in uncirculated grades.
A handful of 1903-S Morgan Dollars have graded MS67 at the major grading services. An example graded PCGS MS67, originally from the Eliasberg Collection, sold for $86,250 at auction in January 2009.
