The 2021-D Morgan Dollar (Buy on eBay) was struck at the Denver Mint and features a “D” mint mark on its reverse. It went on sale on August 3, 2021 with a household order limit of three coins. The coin became “currently unavailable” within half an hour, and the first reported sales were 174,956. Final sales were 174,667, which reflects returned orders. According to the Mint, this issue had some production problems such as scratches and discoloration, which is why top-grades examples are so valuable.

PCGS values this issue at $315 in MS70 and $135 in MS69. 8,922 coins have been graded MS70 by PCGS as of May 11, 2022, while 5,096 have been graded MS69.
Scarce 70 Grades For The 2021-D Morgan Dollar
One of the developing stories around the 2021 Morgan Dollars is the fact that the Denver minted issue is not grading at the MS70 level at the same rate as the other issues. The result has been elevated secondary market pricing for the “D” coins graded in perfect MS70 by PCGS and NGC. Prices are being realized north of $400, and collectors need this coin to complete their collection of all five 2021 Morgan Dollars. The options in First Day of Issue pedigree are becoming very difficult to acquire, and those prices are expected to continue to rise.
